Get YouTube Under Control | Safe Surfing for Kids
Hi, I’m Chris McKenna from Protect Young Eyes and in partnership with Worksighted, we want to bring you a series of short, helpful videos so that you can protect your family from online danger. So, let’s jump right in.
Recently, research put out statistics around the types of digital environments where kids are spending time. Now, if you were to ask the average parent, “What is the most popular platform with kids to use?” Usually, you would default to either Snapchat or Instagram. These statistics actually show that YouTube is the most popular place for teens to spend their time.
Did you know that over 300 hours of YouTube content is uploaded every minute of every single day? The amount of content that is available on YouTube for our kids to consume is mind-numbing. Therefore, as parents and caring adults, it’s very important for us to do everything we can in order to control how kids are using YouTube.
Now, the difficulty with this is that depending on the type of device that they are using, YouTube is controlled differently. You control it one way on an iOS device like an iPhone, and that’s different than how you control YouTube on an Android device. Therefore, parents, it’s so important that you understand how to do this, which is why at Protect Young Eyes, we’ve written a blog post about YouTube’s parental controls that you’re definitely going to want to checkout.
I hope that this information is helpful for you. Please visit protectyoungeyes.com, where you can read our blog. You can register for our bi-weekly parent newsletter.
