Parents Need to Model the Right Behaviors | Safe Surfing for Kids

Sep 10 2018

Chris McKenna:

Hi, I’m Chris McKenna from Protect Young Eyes. In partnership with Worksighted, we want to bring you a series of short helpful videos so that you can protect your family from online danger. So, let’s jump right in.

Moms and dads, this is probably one of the harder videos. It requires us to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, “Do all of the digital behaviors that I exhibit in my home life, are they the types of behaviors that I want to exhibit in the life of my kids?” In other words, are we modeling the right behaviors for our kids?

If we don’t want our sons and daughters to be a 16-year-old with a new driver’s license who is constantly using his or her phone, then every single time we’re dropping them off at school, let’s not be on the phone.

If we don’t want our kids jumping at notifications, or checking Snapchat or Instagram all the time, then when we’re at dinner and our phone rings, or we know that emails are waiting for us, let’s put the digital device away. Parents, if we want our kids to use technology well, then we need to lead them by showing them how to use technology well.

I hope this information is helpful for you. Please visit protectyoungeyes.com where you can read our blog, you can register for a bi-weekly parent newsletter. You can also find us on Facebook where we’re constantly providing the most up-to-date information for parents.

Thank you so much for watching this video. Protect Young Eyes in partnership with Worksighted wish you the very best as you take steps to protect your family today.
