Dropbox Paper Overview
Killian: Hey everyone. Time for another episode of Tech Riffs. My name’s Killian and I’m a systems engineer here at Worksighted. Today I want to talk about a really great new product from our partners at Dropbox called Dropbox Paper. It’s utilized as an awesome collaboration tool and I want to show you how it works. Let’s get started.
If I go to dropbox.com/paper I can sign into my existing Dropbox account. After a few intro messages it’ll bring me to the Dropbox Paper home page and that’s where I can get started. One of the things that it does have initially that I really like is it does have this folder that has example documents in it. If we go in and take a look at the different documents in here, we can see all the different templates that Dropbox Paper has to offer. There’s a brainstorm session. Click inside of here and start to explore a little bit. It gives you a view of some of the possibilities. As you can see it looks just like a website or a webpage. If you would go online, they have all sorts of stuff that they’ve embedded in here. You can tell up in the upper right there’s an Invite button, so if it is your own personal document, you can invite other people to come in and while you are logged in here, they can also log in and be working on different things.
All right, so here we are on our home page. We want to go ahead and create our very own document. Now again, these templates are very powerful and you should definitely play with them, but I’d like to just create a document from scratch. Over on the right I have the Create New Doc button. I’m just going to click that guy. It’s going to bring this basically blank web page right before me, and let’s say we need to brainstorm some ideas for our 2018 IT Report. We may say something like this is also the point at which I would probably invite some other members of my organization to collaborate with me. We have this little blue button up in the upper right. Basically anybody within your organization that has a Dropbox Paper account, you can invite them. They can begin working side-by-side with you immediately.
So first maybe we want to come up with a list of things that needs to happen in the IT Report, and I’m going to go ahead and just add a bulleted list right here. So we may need to talk about things like the state of security, new cloud technologies. Furthermore, if we come down a little bit we can also literally just embed web pages within our own document. So we have a graphic designer that we work with to help design the idea for the 2018 Report. So maybe we have ideas for design.
We can add a page break right above that so we know that we’re in a new section. Come down right below it. Now he’s got things right on our Pinterest board. We can go ahead and copy that, paste it in the document, and you can see right here that it literally just embeds it right in there so we can click on it. And now that’s in the document so any of the other team members know what I’m thinking about, know what I’m looking at and we can go from there.
Dropbox Paper is a super useful tool and it can be a lot to take in but if you go ahead and you play with things like the example documents and just start to play around with ideas that you have, you can see that it has a lot of capabilities and it can really be a game-changer for you in your productivity.
That’s a wrap, which means it’s time for my shameless plus. You can learn more about Dropbox and other cool tips and tricks by going to worksighted.com.
